Blackjack was once considered the casino game of choice for high rollers. But since its deconstruction by various mathematicians, the casinos' subsequent attempts to combat card counting, and the rise of poker, 21 hasn't had quite the same luster that it used to. Regardless, it's still a popular game to play in casinos because of its simplicity. Glu Mobile's Blackjack Hustler captures the speed of the card game quite well, but its awkward attempt to incorporate role-playing elements falls short.
Blackjack Hustler offers an instant game and a career mode. Instant game seats you at a table with $500 as you play against a dealer only. There are no computer-controlled players sitting at the table with you in either mode. If you opt for the career mode, you'll choose one of seven prenamed characters and start on your way to becoming a blackjack champion. You'll see an overhead map of a city, with your house, a bank, and four different casinos to play at. Only one of the casinos is available to you at first, but as you earn money in side games and tournaments, you'll be invited to play at the more high-end card rooms. At home, you have a few choices available. You can sleep to advance the days, check your answering machine for messages (usually informing you of upcoming tournaments), or examine your career info, which tells you how many luxury items you've won from tournaments.
